Taking Flight

GuArdean Centre for Conservation Research is excited to officially launch!

Over the past year, the conservation sector has faced significant challenges due to funding cuts and shifting global priorities. Despite these challenges, our team remained committed to addressing environmental crimes and sought to find new paths forward. GuArdean Centre for Conservation Research was born in 2025 out of an unwillingnes to ignore the ongoing harm of envionmental crimes and a desire to continue this work.

Throughout the last nine months, we have collaborated with remarkable individuals and groups in conservation, academia, government, and communities to bring our initiatives to fruition. Our recent work has included collaborations on marine fisheries, illegal reptile and amphibian trade, and exporations of policy tools to address illegal pet trade. From a theoretical perspecitve, we have been working with academics to explore new applications of criminological theory in the context of regulatory non-compliance. Our work is dynamic and multifacted, but all building to a common goal of ensuring that evidence-based research is supporting conservation practice.

We cannot even begin to express our gratitude to everyone who has embraced our vision and provided support along this journey. We look forward to sharing our work and building collaborations as we take flight.
